Tests of diesel cutter “Volga”
The time of our revolutionary project of “flying tractor”'s tests have finally come. And more precisely – the hydrofoil 6-seater cutter "Volga".
Our featurette is that we are the first, who replaced an original engine from GAZ-53 with a Minsk diesel D-245. Such ones now are setted on everything - on ZiLs, PAZ bases, Aurora bases, Valdais. And in fact it is tractor turbo-diesel  with horsepower of 125. It's more useful to have a diesel than a carburator on rivers. Before us someone tried to set a diesel, but it was only - Volvo Pentas and MerCruisers, the costs of which began from є 15k. I.e. much more expensive than a cutter itself, and even used ones for us and for many others is not available. And this - practically the unique variant from low-priced diesels. There was a question: will be a cutter that became heavier on 200 kg, go up on hydrofoils? Protracted calculations with characteristics of engine, wings and propellers talked that she will go up. Remained to check it in practice. And annual job performance now is on the water.
The tests passed successfully.
Cutter shown an excellent dynamics. An acceleration was limited not so much engine performance, but by durability of the propeller shaft .
A cutter has shown expected speed at 65 km/h. At a further acceleration there was some instability of motion on hydrofoils - it's a cause for future research work.
